Copperplate etching/engraving of the village of Nootdorp, in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland. City view / Village view in an oval cartouche, accompanied by the city crest and title. Underneath the cartouche, a text is printed, praising the depicted city.

This print originates from ‘L. van Ollefen & R.S. Bakker van, De Nederlandsche stad- en dorp-beschrijver, part I-VIII, Amsterdam, H.A. Banse, 1793-1801’. Engraving made by Anna Catharina Brouwer (1772 – ?).

Anna Catharina (or Cornelia) Brouwer was born in Amsterdam. Several authors suggest that she was the daughter of Cornelis Brouwer, who worked as a painter and etcher between 1773 and 1802 in Amsterdam and collaborated with Cornelis Ploos van Amstel and Reinier Vinkeles (NNBW). Between 1793 and 1801 she engraved and drew numerous Dutch town and village views and topographical plates. She worked with the Amsterdam engraver Jan Lucas van der Beek (1753-1818).

[NL] Lieve van Ollefen (1749-1816) gaf in samenwerking met R. Bakker (vanaf deel V) acht delen uit van het boekwerk “De Nederlandsche stad- en dorpsbeschrijver”. Lieve van Ollefen was een Amsterdamse dichter en (toneel)schrijver. In de boeken zijn ovale gravures opgenomen gemaakt door Anna Catharina Brouwer die stads- en dorpsgezichten voorstellen en allegorische voorstellingen van Johan Christoffel Schultsz. Het plan was om de gehele republiek te beschrijven maar alleen Noord- en Zuid-Holland werden gehaald.
