Unknown master, [Portrait after Jan van Mierveld]

‘Namen der vier- en twintig gedelegeerde rechters van den advocaat Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, bij den ambassadeur van Vrankrijk beuls genoemt, waer voor ijder 2400 guldens heeft genoten’.

Print collecting the names of the 24 judges that ordered the death of Oldebarnevelt. In the center a bust portrait of the lawyer that was executed in February 1619; it is copied after the well known and reproduced portrait by Jan van Mierveld. Under the portrait the inscription “Johannes ab Oldebarnevelt Eques D. Berkeliae Roderisae etc. Advoc. et Custos Magni Sigilli et Archivor Holl. et Westfr.” Under the plate with the portrait a poem of 8 lines.

On the bottom right in pen and black ink “928” canceled with a pencil sign across it.

Engraving and letterpress on paper; plate mark: 133 x 83 mm, total: 356 x 277 mm; some light staining and dirt, a very nice inky thumb trace on the top right corner of the portrait. Mounted on cardboard with the top corners, paper in good condition, despite some traces of folding and a small tear at the bottom. Muller p. 175, nr. 1374d.
