Bagelaar, Ernst Willem Jan (1775-1837)
Landscape with brook (landschap met bomen en beek).
Wooded landscape with a stream; in the fare background a man walking beside a horse on the top of which another figure (probably a ‘Flight to Egypt’?). On the verso collector’s mark and stamped: ‘Aan’ which might indicate that the print was intended to be given to someone in particular, as ‘aan’ in Dutch means: ‘to’ by means of addressee. Signed and dated above to the left: ‘Majour Bagelaar d. et f. 1817’. Very fine impression.
Etching on paper with some margin; plate mark: 205 x 158 mm, total: 237 x 190; watermark with man on horseback: ‘pro patria’; state II/2; from collections: PKL and K. Vermeeren (not in Lugt). Hippert & Linnig 52.
