Frontispiece to “Hedendaagsche historie tegenwoordige staat der vereeinigde Nederlanden.”

A personification of Unity of Holland, seated on a throne adorned with the coat of arms of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. It is accompanied by figures that symbolize the prosperity it brings to the Republic. In the foreground a putto with a map of the Republic. In the background a view of a harbor. Many characters bear the symbol of the East India Company and are clad in oriental clothes.

Signed and dated at bottom left: “J.C. Philips inv. et fecit, 1739”.

Etching and engraving on paper, with margins; plate mark: 171 x 103 mm, total: 196 x 118 mm; in very good condition. With title page and description in letterpress of the complex iconography at the front, the two pages mounted together from the verso, along the right side.
