Etching/Ets: An old woman combing the hair of a girl. (Bamboccianti)/Oude vrouw die haar kamt/luizen zoekt.
An old woman combing the hair of a girl. Many elements suggest that the print was executed in Italy: the mountainous landscape on the background with ruined constructions visible on the left, the attire of the old woman, looking like an Italian peasant and the very signature of the artist, who wrote “G” as his name initial, thus “Giovanni”, Italianization of Jan. Very charming composition. Signed above, on the right: “G. Miele fecit”. ca. 1650-1660.
Etching on paper, trimmed close to plate; total: 145 x 216 mm; only state; some dirt and smudges, especially along the margins. Nicely toned impression. Hollstein 12, Bartsch 2, Mirror of Everyday Life, cat. 51, pp. 257-259.
