A complete copy of a rare work (three parts in one binding). With the ex-libris (stamp) of Dutch violinist and conductor J. Martin S. Heuckeroth (1853-1936), and signed in two spots (in pencil) by Heuckeroth. Very light browning and the occasional stain on page margins, not affecting the text. Small tear in upper left joint; front cover hinge (internal) cracked but not broken. A good copy.
The personal copy of Dutch violinist, composer, and conductor Jacob Martin Severinus Heuckeroth, this complete volume teaches the fundamentals of music to students across three parts divided into 24 lessons. Accompanying the text and tables are 17 copper-engraved, fold-out illustrations of (mostly) musical scores. The book teaches both letter notation and the number system, which was commonly found in Dutch school songbooks of the 19th century. Other topics include harmonic structure, basso continuo, intervals, accompaniment, and advanced instruction in composition, counterpoint, and fugue.
