[Copper Engraving map/Kopergravure kaart van Leuven] LOVANIUM (Leuven).
Appeared in the 1609 edition of Guicciardini’s “Beschryvinghe of all the Netherlands; (…)”, this plate numbered as “2” on the bottom right displays the map of the city. Titled on the bottom left in a cartouche: “LOVANIUM Brabanthiarum / urbium caput unica Musaru / ac prestantissimarum artium / sedes optantissimumque domiciliu”; on the bottom right three elegant figures on a hill overlooking the city. On the top corners the coats of arms of the city. This plate (Leuven-4.2 in Guicciardini Illustratus, p. 262) which appeared in the 1609 French edition by Claesz.
Copper engraving on paper with margins; plate mark: 233 x 310 mm, total: 255 x 337 mm; state II/2 two pages joined together in the middle. Foolscap watermark. in very good condition
