Abraham Heidanus (Frankenthal 1597-Leiden 1678) minister and from 1648 professor in Leiden; moderate but convinced Certasian. In this book, which would be the reason of his discharge as professor, he opposes the ’20 posities’ imposed by the trustees of the University and the Burgomaster of Leiden on which it was forbidden to lecture. These forbidden positions included the works by Coccejus, Wittichius, Cartesius, Von Wolzogen: the last ‘position’ reads that philosophy is an explainer of the Word of God. Very rare. Only 6 copies of the first edition held in Dutch libraries.
[NL] De auteur Abraham Heidanus was predikant en tot 1676 professor in Leiden. Het boek geeft commentaar op de verboden stellingen en probeert te verdedigen dat de Cartesiaanse filosofie en de andere genoemde posities, verenigbaar waren met de orthodoxe theologie. Het werk was controversieel: de curatoren zagen het als een directe bedreiging en daardoor werd Heidanus uit zijn functie als professor ontheven. Het markeert een belangrijk moment in de intellectuele strijd aan Nederlandse universiteiten over Cartesiaanse filosofie, theologie en de grenzen van de academische vrijheid.
