after Goltzius, Hendrick (1558-1617)
Charlotte de Bourbon / Anna Fullings. (Charlotte van Bourbon).
Drawings after two famous prints by Goltzius, one depicting Charlotte de Bourbon and the other Anna Fullings, the mother of the artist. The first portrait is accompanied by the inscription in pen and ink: “Carola Burbonia” and two details from the jewellery the woman is wearing. The portrait on the right is on transparent paper and is referred to as “de schoonmoeder van Goltzius”, therefore the mother in law of the artist. Until 1969 in fact this woman was believed to be Katharina Decker, the mother of Goltzius’ wife. In this portrait, the background has been left out, only the figure and the table in front of her are copied. Copy from at least the third state of the original print. Nineteenth century.
