Copperplate engraving of the Dutch city of Brouwershaven, as seen from the south-east. With explanatory title and the city crest (blank) in the middle of the plate (Brouwershaven). ca. 1617. Overall size: 15,2 x 21,5 cm; plate size: 13,1 x 20 cm. Good state. Some age related discolouration and a neatly repaired tear in the top right margin. Handlaid paper. Printed text in Dutch about Zyrickzee and woodcut decoration on the verso of the print.
This print originates from ‘Lodovico Guicciardini, Descrittione di tutti i Paesi bassi (…), Arnhem, Jan Jansz or Utrecht, Van Herwijck, 1617.’ This was an influential account of the history and the arts of the Low Countries, accompanied by city maps by various leading engravers. Deys 2001.
