Antique title page | Le Temple des Muses, published 1732-1733, 1 p.
Architectural frame with the title in French, flanked by the personifications of Poetry and Painting. The second personification wears a cloth on her mouth. This refers to Horace’s Ut pictura poesis (Poetry is like painting). The frame is crowned with a cartouche with Cupid. Under the frame, a cartouche with another personification with a tower-shaped crown, possibly Cybele. This cartouche is flanked by Death as a skeleton and an old man who has just awakened.
