The title is engraved on the right: ATLAS MAIOR F.CK DE WIT.
On the left on a throne is Cybele, the personification of Earth, with a mural crown and holding a key. Next to her on the floor is Geography, with a book. She is surrounded by various measuring instruments and a lion lies at her feet. Behind Geography are four putti as personifications of the continents on a globe. On the left, Fama plays a trumpet. In the left background, Neptune, god of the sea, is sailing on the water. Behind it, the giant Atlas carries the sky.
Signed in a cartouche lying in the foreground: ‘Lauwrens: Scherm: delin & sculp.’
Inscription above: LONDINI APUD CHRISTOPHORUM BROWNE.
With the address of the publisher below: ‘ex Officina PETRI MORTIER Amstelodami cum Privilegio Potentissimor D.D. Ordinum Hollandiae et Westfrisiae.’
