View of the city of Haarlem during the reign of the Duke of Alva. The explanatory caption surrounding the print and the page number suggest that this plate comes from the 1616 Dutch edition. Inscribed at bottom: ‘HAERLEM / Dira fames postquam portas patefecerat ALBAE…’. Plate numbered as ’37’ on bottom left corner; page numbered as ‘117’ at top right. On verso is clearly visible a transfer from another plate as the sheets were piled probably when the ink wasn’t fully dry.
Etching on paper with text in letterpress, hand colored; plate mark: 134 x 156 mm, total: 158 x 198 mm; slightly ageing paper, some tears along the margins, traces of previous mounting on verso.
