François Langlois (1588-1647), after Israël Silvestre (1621-1691), after Jacques Callot (1592-1635) [?]

[Antique print, etching] Veue de Pouzzole (View of Pozzuoli, near Napoli, Napels), published ca. 1640, 1 p.

View of Pozzuoli (Neaples): fortified castle built on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea; camp scene in the foreground.

Suite of 4 pieces without title or numbers. Views of Italy, engraved by François Collignon after Silvestre. These views, somewhat in the style of Callot, are purely capricious and highly unfaithful; they do not in any way represent the places indicated. Collignon was a disciple of Callot.

On the bottom: ‘Veue de Pouzzole.’ and ‘Israel ex. cum prvil. Regis.’

Etching on paper, total: 85 x 177 mm; trimmed on platemark, in good condition. Faucheux: 22.1, Baré : 757.
