Self-portrait of the writer Everhard Meyster (1620-1679). The artist is seated on a chair of which the back is visible. Here are displayed the inscriptions. The artist is looking at the viewer while holding a guitar in his right hand. On the top right corner hangs a curtain with his coat of arms.
At the bottom a verse in Latin: ‘MUSA CIELO BEAT / MUSA VETAT MORI / Qui termis … Magis ille Magister / R. KEUCHENIUS.’ (Robertus Keuchenius (1636-1673)).
On the verso the title page of Meyster’s book: ‘De gekroonde berymde policy’ and his monogram with his motto.
