Map of the siege of Douai by the Allies under the Prince of Orange, taken on June 29, 1710. Numbered lower right: ‘Tom. II. no. 47.’

Titled on the top right: ‘PLAN DE LA VILLE DE DOUAY  et du Fort de l’Escarpe.’ On the top left corner a prospect of the aggression to the city.

This map was previously published by Anna van Beek. It served to illustrate how the war of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) was proceeding.

This impression, however, comes from a later edition from [Jean] du Mont’s: ‘Oorlogskundige beschryving van de veldslagen en belegeringen, der drie … en den Prins van Oranje en Nassau-Vriesland,’ from 1729.

Large plano, total: 571 x 667 mm; wide margins, central folding crease. Nicely contrasted image. In great condition.

Douai is een stad in het Franse Noorderdepartement, zo’n 50 km ten zuiden van Kortrijk en ca. 40 km ten zuidoosten van Rijsel.
