Half length portrait of Kenau Hasselaer, holding a spear in her left hand. On the left of the picture a head is resting on a table. According to the legend, Hasselaer played a crucial role in the liberation of the city of Haarlem from the Spanish siege in 1573. Here, the woman is represented as a Judith with the head of Holofernes. After another engraving, possibly from the first half of the seventeenth century. Four lines of text below: ‘omine foeliciduy kennau hollandica iudita. / aarlemo eycurrens saeuuos sic pulsat iberos. / siet aier een vrou genaemt kennau vroom als een man / die taldertirt vroomelic bestrit den spensen tijran.’; signed at center: ‘S. Fokke f.’. With the address of the publisher: ‘A. Folk.(ema)’.
