Portrait of Jacob de Bucquoy (1693-??). Bust length. The portrayed is wearing a hat and sits behind a table with  his left hand resting on an open book. With his right hand he points at a globe. In the foreground rests a compass. In the background books and the tools of his work, as he was a land map maker.

Inscription at the top: ‘Gebooren te Amsterdam den 26 Octob.r 1693.’ at bottom, six lines in Dutch by P.r Langendyk: ‘Wilt gy het Weezen zien eens… in prent geets naar ’t leven.’ Signed at bottom: ‘C.V. Noorde fecit 1758.’

BUCQUOY (Jacob de), geboren te Amsterdam, 26 October 1693, reisde veel, werd in 1719 aangenomen in dienst van de Oostindische Compagnie als landmeter en kaartenmaker. VOC.
