Portrait of Balthazar Gerbier (1592-1663); half-length, directed to the left, head slightly turned to face the viewer, wearing a flat white collar, holding a letter in his right hand; a curtain in left background. The sitter was a miniature painter and architect; born Middeburg in Zeeland; he moved to London 1615 as miniaturist; between 1620-8 he was keeper of Buckingham’s picture collection.
