Jacob and Rachel at the well [Genesis 29]; Jacob, surrounded by shepherds and sheep, lifting the stone slab covering the well at left, Rachel standing with her flock of sheep in left background, a dense forest at right; after Gillis d’Hondecoeter; from a series of 130 engravings (plus title-page) forming a Picture Bible. Set: Figures of the Bible, in wich almost every history of the Holy Scriptures is discribed (Royal-Size Bible).

Lettered with production details, in lower left corner of the margin: G de hondecutre Inventor, and in lower right corner of the margin: Joannes Londerselius Schulp / CIVisscher exc.

Lettered in the lower margin with two columns each containing one line of Latin verse: Finibus ex patrijs profugo Venit obuia Rachel Cognato figens oscula grata suo Gene 29.

[NL] Waterrijk landschap met Jakob en de mannen van de nabij gelegen plaats Haran bij de waterput. Twee mannen verwijderen de steen van de put voor Rachel opdat haar vaders kudde kan worden gedrenkt. Rachel komt met haar kudde aanlopen. In de marge een onderschrift in Latijn, met bijbelverwijzing naar Genesis 29. Antieke tekening door Jan van Londerseel.
