Half-length portrait of Daniel Seghers, in profile to the right, wearing a robe and a mantle, holding a sheet of paper. He was a flower painter and Jesuit. An open window overlooking the woods and a rose bush behind his back, on the left.

Titled below: ‘DANIEL SEGERS E SOCIETATE IESV. Arte sua haud similes flores pinxisset Apelles, Quos toto acceptos DANIEL orbae dedit.’

Signed: ‘Ioannes Lyvyus pinxit / Paulus Pontius sculpsit / Martinus vanden Enden excud.’

Daniël Seghers was een Brabantse bloemenschilder. Dichters als Vondel en Constantijn Huygens hebben zijn werk bezongen. Hij had veel navolgers.
