Anonymous Northern Netherlandish painter (18th century), possibly Dirk Kuipers (1733-1796)
Antique drawing | View on a canal, ca. 1750, 1 p.
View on a canal with elegant figures crossing a bridge, a boat and some buildings on the left. On the bottom right, in the foreground, some bathers, only roughtly sketched. These figures, in the style of Poelenburch, so looking back to the seventeenth century (as suggested by Erik Löffler in a letter adressed to Ab van Der Steur, 1999), are most likely by a different hand. The bottom right corner presented a significant tear on the paper. A line of thicker paper was thus attached on verso for reparation. Quite a remarkable drawing, possibly by Dirk Kuipers (1733-1796) (we are grateful to Laurens Schoemaker for the suggestion of attribution).
