Engraving (235 x 165 mm) on laid paper Handcolored and except for a small tear in the left edge (outisde the illustration) in very good condition. Pasted in on the top part in a paper passepartout. Signed in the right bottom corner C.F.F. Sc. and in the left bottom corner: De Sere del.

Engraving made by Christiaan F. Fritsch (active 1740-1780), original from Hamburg. He worked for Jan Punt and other engravers. Print used in the Dutch edition of ‘Histoire naturelle’ by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, Amsterdam J. Schneider 1775. Le Clerc come de Buffon (1707-1788) was a French biologist and naturalist who influenced the next two generations of naturalist including Darwin.

In the backgrond one sees a rider on a horse and a house in the landscape with hills.
