Half leather binding with print on spine in red and gold. Hinges a bit broken, 22 x1 3 cm. Title page with vignet and minor foxing, further interior in good condition. with ex libris J. Lanjouw (1902-1984, Dutch professor botany). Petronella Moens (1762-1843) was a blind poetress and famous novelist. She grew up in Aardenburg (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen). In her Novel Aardenburg, of de Onbekende volksplanting in Zuid-Amerika, she created an utopic plantation society (plantagesamenleving) in which she could demonstrate her ideas on slavery (slavernij).
