Outstanding portrait of theologian Johannes Hoornbeeck (1617-1666), turned towards the left. The portrait stands within rectangular frames as a composition on a sheet, in trompe l’oeil. Inscribed under the portrait: “JOHANNES HOORNBEECK, SS. Theologiae Professor Lugd Bat.”
Listed among the 36 Philosophy professors in Leiden, collected by van der Aa in the “Fundatoris, Curatorum et Professorum celeberrimorum aliorumque illustrium virorum…” published in Leiden between 1715 and 1716.

Engraving with some etching on paper from three plates; larger plate mark: 347 x 252 mm, total: 420 x 330 mm; the paper of the central plate is more cooked than the rest and some light foxing affect the most external margin; otherwise in very good condition. Van Someren 147.
