Portrait of Cosimo de’ Medici, bust in profile to right; round medallion within a square. Lettered below left “DGeÿn excu”. Around portrait the text: “COSMUS MEDICES P.P.P. MAGNUS”. From a set of four plates (New Hollstein 234-237). After an early Florentine medal [Pisanello?] (G.F.Hill, ‘Corpus of Italian Medals’, 1930, pp. 236-7, no. 909). On verso various collectors’ marks: VE in a circle: Pim van Eekelen (Amsterdam 1923-1984), L.5101; mark ‘K. GROLL’ unidentified XX century, L.3790; Martin Friedrich Oppenheim (1888-1949), L.1999a; Theodor Falkeisen (1768-1814) and Johann Friedrich Huber (1766-1832) L.1008.

Engraving on paper, trimmed to plate; total: 111 x 111 mm, state I/2, New Hollstein Dutch 234. In outstanding condition. On verso traces of previous mounts.
