New endpapers, but a good copy of this classic. First edition of this Dutch translation of the Iconologia of Cesare Ripa (1560?-1625). First published in Italy in 1593, it was conceived as a guide to the symbolism in emblem books. It was very influential in the 17th century and went through a number of editions. There were 9 Italian editions and 8 editions in other languages, The present Dutch edition was translated by the publisher himself, Dirck Pietersz Pers. In good condition. B0059.
