Bekker, Elisabeth Wolff, geb.; Agatha Deken

Historie van den heer Willem Leevend. Den Haag, Gebroeders Van Cleef, 1784-1785. [2 of 8 parts]

SKU: 6951

Betje (Elisabeth ) Wolff (1738-1804) and Aagje (Agatha) Deken (1741-1804) met each other in 1776. When Betje’ s husband died in 1777 they decided to move in together. This was the start of a fruitful partnership. They wrote many novels, poetry and idealistic manifests. This novel appeared a few years after the publishing of their succesful novel ‘Historie van Mejuffrouw Sara Burgerhart’. Written in 8 parts, the novel becomes increasingly more philosophical. It was not as succesful as Sara Burgerhart and it was to be the beginning of the decline of the popularity of Wolff and Deken.
