Plate with a view on Katwijk aan Zee. An draftsman is drawing on the dunes overlooking the village. Sailing boats on the right.
This plate was used as illustration in various editions of Adriaan Pars’: ‘Catti aborigines Batavorum…’ firstly published in Leiden in 1697. In the first edition, the plate was dated on the top right corner ‘1695’ and signed on the bottom right corner: ‘C. van Hagen.’ In this impression, both the date and the signature have been removed.
In the 1745 edition, the same plate is signed on the bottom left by Johannes van Solingen: ‘JvSolingen fec.’ possibly a copy after van Hagen’s. Another edition was issued in 1747.
