Jan van der Vinne (1663-1721)

[Antique print, etching] J. v. d. Vinne, De Harreberg Emaus [set: ‘Gesiten buyten Haarlem’], ca. 1680.

Figures at the Emaus Inn (Herberg emaus in Haarlem). On the right a bridge and in the middle two riders. Bottom right numbered: 5. On verso, unidentified collector’s mark.

Despite the literature (Hollstein) mentions two states of this print, it is more likely that the states were actually four. Compare the clouds in this etching to those in the print nr. 63257 in our collection. In the present impression, the lines are more accentuated.

Etching on paper, with margins; plate mark: 150 x 191 mm; total: 194 x 233 mm; state IV/4, in outstanding condition; Hollstein 5; Nagler 5, Le Blanc 5, Wurzbach 3. Watermark with coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam.
