Bust portrait of Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer turned towards the left, in oval frame. According to the legend, Hasselaer played a crucial role in the liberation of the city of Haarlem from the Spanish siege in 1573. Inscribed below: ‘KENAU HASSELAAR’, signed and dated: ‘J. Buys delin. / Reinr. Vinkeles sculp. 1788 / naar een Origineel Famielje Schilderij’. Used as illustration in Jacobus Kok’s: ‘Vaderlandsch woordenboek : met kaarten, plaaten en pourtraitten’. Amsterdam: Johannes Allart, 1785-1796. Vol. XX.
