Third engraving from the suite of 12 entitled ‘Première Suite des Mois de l’Année’ with an allegory of the month of March. Wreaths with the symbols of Mars, the god warrior decorate the frame; the medaillon at the top center contains the zodiacal sign of the Aries. In the central composition on the background a city on fire; in front of it a fight in the vicinity of a military encampment; in the foreground men are collecting branches from dead trees. On the right a shepherd with his animals in front of a house with smoking chimney. On a cartouche at the bottom: ‘Mars terram atq. homines torquet, Coelumq. profondum / Bellisonae alumnus: sed annia legumina fundit / Cum pri Regis’.
