The Prodigal Son leaves the house of the father, first plate of a set of four originally published in Antwerp in 1585 by Gerard de Jode. Numbered on bottom right corner: 1. Inscribed below in Latin: “Prodigus a partijs discedit Filius oris, Et patri longum dicitur ecce vale. Luc 15.11.” With the address of the publisher: “CJVisscher excudit”.
Engraving on paper, remargined; total: 232 x 307 mm; state II/2; some smudges due to handling on margins especially, otherwise in very good condition. New Hollstein 296.
