Rare copy, not in Worldcat and STCV. An interesting oblong book with green shining jugenstil cover and pages in purple or red ink. 16 x 21 cm. Wear on the binding. Richly illustrated. First page: Nihil Obstat, Gandae 22 junii 1911. Imprimatur Gandae 23 juni 1911. In the back: Impremerie Saint-Augustin, Deselee, De Brouwer et Cie, Bruges (and with stamp Belgique). Rare illustrated French-language Catholic children’s book for First Communion, published by the Maison du Bon Livre in Lille and the Œuvre de Saint-Charles in Grammont (Geraardsbergen), with ecclesiastical approval issued in Ghent in June 1911. Particularly attractive for its extensive red- and purple-printed illustrations combining religious instruction with scenes of contemporary childhood and modern life, including railway travel, making it an interesting document of Catholic education and children’s publishing in early twentieth-century France and Belgium.
